The design switcher uses javascript to switch the stylesheet used by the web browser. The content of the site remains unchanged (albeit sometimes hidden). The stylesheet choice is stored in a cookie for later use.

The method used is adapted from the one published here by the competent guys at A List Apart.

Design 2 is hidden for Internet Explorer 6 as the CSS support required was only introduced in version 7. Internet Explorer users should consider switching to Firefox.
